When Will Benefits Arrive in September 2026? Social Security, SSI and SNAP Schedule

September 2026 brings different payment schedules for Social Security, SSI and SNAP recipients. Social Security and SSDI payments are based mainly on birth dates, SSI is scheduled for the first of the month, and SNAP EBT deposits depend on the state where a household lives.
Knowing your September payment date can make it easier to budget for rent, groceries, utilities, medication and other monthly expenses. Here is a simple guide to the September 2026 Social Security payment schedule, upcoming SSI early payments and SNAP benefit dates by state.
Social Security payment dates for September 2026
The official Social Security payment calendar uses different dates for SSI, people who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 and most retirement, survivors and SSDI recipients.
| Payment date | Who is scheduled to receive payment |
|---|---|
| Tuesday, September 1 | SSI recipients |
| Thursday, September 3 | People who received Social Security before May 1997 and people who receive both SSI and Social Security |
| Wednesday, September 9 | Retirement, survivors and SSDI beneficiaries born from the 1st through the 10th |
| Wednesday, September 16 | Retirement, survivors and SSDI beneficiaries born from the 11th through the 20th |
| Wednesday, September 23 | Retirement, survivors and SSDI beneficiaries born from the 21st through the 31st |
For most beneficiaries, the Social Security payment date is determined by their birthday, not by the day they applied for benefits. For example, a person who receives Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and was born on the 18th is scheduled for payment on September 16. A retiree born on the 25th is scheduled for September 23.
The September 3 payment group is different. It includes people who started receiving Social Security before May 1997 and people who receive both SSI and Social Security. Dual-benefit recipients normally receive their SSI payment on September 1 and Social Security payment on September 3.
SSI payment dates through December
SSI is usually paid on the first day of each month. But if the first falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the Social Security Administration sends the money on the prior business day.
This creates two SSI deposits in October and December 2026. These are not bonus SSI payments. The second deposit is an early payment for the following month.
| SSI payment date | Benefit month paid | Reason for date |
|---|---|---|
| October 1, 2026 | October | Regular SSI payment date |
| October 30, 2026 | November | November 1 falls on a Sunday |
| December 1, 2026 | December | Regular SSI payment date |
| December 31, 2026 | January 2027 | New Year’s Day is a federal holiday |
There will be no separate SSI payment in November because the November benefit is paid on October 30. Likewise, the December 31 payment must cover January 2027 expenses. You can verify your expected SSI deposit through a my Social Security account or the SSA benefits calendar.

Maximum SNAP benefits for September 2026
For the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C., the Fiscal Year 2026 maximum SNAP benefit amounts remain in effect through September 30, 2026.
The full allotment is generally reserved for households with very low or no countable net income. Your real food-stamp benefit can be lower depending on income, household size, rent, utilities, childcare expenses and other permitted deductions.
| Household size | Maximum SNAP benefit per month |
|---|---|
| 1 person | $298 |
| 2 people | $546 |
| 3 people | $785 |
| 4 people | $994 |
| 5 people | $1,183 |
| 6 people | $1,421 |
| 7 people | $1,571 |
| 8 people | $1,789 |
| Each additional person | Add $218 |
Maximum SNAP allotments differ in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands because they use separate federal benefit schedules.
In general, SNAP calculations reduce a household’s maximum benefit by about 30% of countable net monthly income. A four-person household with $1,000 in net income could receive roughly $694 rather than the $994 maximum, although the state makes the final calculation.
What to do if payment is late
If your Social Security, SSDI or SSI payment is missing, check your bank, credit union or Direct Express balance before calling Social Security. The SSA recommends allowing up to three additional mailing days before reporting a payment as missing. Use your my Social Security account to review benefit and payment details.
If your SNAP benefits have not appeared, check your EBT balance and state benefits portal. Look for notices about recertification, document requests, income changes or changes in your household. If the payment is still missing after your expected date, call the customer-service number on the back of the EBT card or contact your local SNAP agency.
